What Would It Cost Me?

School taxes are anticipated to stay approximately the same as they are in 2026.  While the rate will change, most homeowners will only see slight adjustments in the overall amount due for the ZCS portion of their tax bill.  If approved by voters, there is potential for some homeowners to experience a slight decrease compared to 2026 during the eight (8) year term.

Based on analysis conducted by the school district’s financial advisors, ZCS Superintendent Dr. Rebecca Coffman, and Chief Financial Officer Regina May, the following general observations can be made in regard to comparisons between the current 2026 tax bills and those projected for 2027-2034, the years covered under the proposed Operating Referendum.

While the specific tax rate is set during the annual budget process annually in October, it is anticipated that the rate will increase gradually over the eight-year term of the proposed ballot question.  It is not the intention to apply the maximum rate in the early years of the term while the deduction changes have not fully phased in.  Managing the rate to the phasing in of the deduction changes enacted in SEA-1, 2025, will allow many property owners to see a consistent amount due for the school portion of their taxes.

ZCS has projected our revenue needs to maintain and support our class sizes and programmatic offerings for the next eight years.  In the past, market value changes in assessed value have enabled growth in that revenue allowing consistent support to ZCS while maintaining a consistent rate.  Due to changes from SEA-1, 2025, to maintain the same level of funding, our rate must increase as taxable property values decline.  The end result for tax bills will be consistent across the years, with only slight yearly adjustments.

A tax calculator is available to help determine impact for individual taxpayers. Many homes will stay the same or see a decrease; some will see an increase.
