Multilingual Learners (ML) Program
WELCOME TO THE ZIONSVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS (ML) PROGRAM!
The mission of the ZCS Multilingual Learners Program is to engage with our students and their families, create meaningful learning experiences for all students with the goal of English language proficiency, while honoring our students’ backgrounds, experiences, and cultures to foster a sense of belonging for all.
ZCS is proud to serve students and families who speak over sixty different languages!
Multilingual Learners’ needs may be identified via the Home Language Survey, which is a part of each student’s initial enrollment in Indiana schools. Students whose primary language is a language other than English are given a screener to help identify English language learning needs. Not all students qualify for Multilingual Learner services. Students who qualify are served by a team of certified teachers, specially trained to meet the needs of Multilingual Learners in the areas of Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing the English language. Multilingual Learners’ language proficiency is assessed yearly through the WIDA Access assessment.
