Keeping Our Schools Safe Together

Zionsville Community Schools uses the STOPit platform to empower students, staff, and families to report safety concerns quickly, easily, and anonymously. Whether it's bullying, threats, or other potential risks to school safety, STOPit allows users to share information through a secure app or web-based form anytime, from anywhere. Each report is reviewed by trained personnel to ensure appropriate follow-up and support. Together, we can create a safer school environment for all.

Our top priority: safe schools for all.

SafetyFirst

Safety in Zionsville Community Schools

ZCS is committed to providing a safe learning environment for students and staff. Doors remain locked during the school day, all visitors are required to sign in and wear identification, and school employees are trained to immediately report any suspicious activity to the proper authority.

Zionsville Community Schools has 10 School Safety Specialists trained through the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy on staff. The Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy provides on-going, certified training and information on national and state best practices, as well as exemplary resources for school safety, security, intervention/prevention, and emergency preparedness planning. School safety specialists are trained to lead the development and implementation of school safety practices which will provide safe educational environments for all students in Indiana. Members participate in a three-day basic training sessions and complete ten hours of computer based coursework the first year. Participants in advanced training are involved in two-day long sessions each year.

Each ZCS school has a unique School Safety Plan, created in collaboration with local law enforcement, communicated with staff members, and practiced regularly to ensure that everyone knows their role in crisis.  Classrooms have an emergency manual with quick and easily accessible step by step instructions for teachers in an emergency. This manual can also be use to communicate “all clear” or “need help” quickly.

Additional practices, personnel, and supports to ensure school safety include items not shown on this page because of confidential collaborations, plans, capabilities, and ongoing monitoring that involve local law enforcement and lead school staff. The Board of School Trustees is active in frequent discussion about school safety. This preparedness is important and never done.
